This film tells the stranger-than-fiction story of serial prison escaper Mark DeFriest. Prisoner testimonials were reenacted through a hybrid 3D environment and 2D character animation approach. Due to budget constraints, we designed a style that would not require too much character animation and instead focuses on frozen “moments” in time. We animated over 35 minutes of its 80 minute runtime, also taking on the production design, branding, and document animations shown within the rest of the documentary.
